Jade Frost cannot believe her boyfriend, well ex now, gambled her in a poker game. Jade has no plans to honor a bet she did not make, however Shep Prescott isn't letting it go. Shep has never met a woman who was more set against spending time with him. For the first time in a long time,he is intrigued. Jade though is blunt, hot tempered, and unwilling to let Shep in. Shep has a plan though and begins to realized Jade is becoming extremely important to him, but can she fit into his life?

Shep is born, bred, and lives upper class society. Jade has to earn every penny she has, she also knows Shep is privileged and feels this is a game to him. I did struggle with Jade being so rude to Shep initially. Fun story overall, liked the idea of this one.

couldn't put it down. I really liked Jade and Shep, I did think their relationship was a bit underdeveloped. But the sex scenes were well written. Jade is nobody's fool and that made a change from the usual doormat heroine that so often features in the romance books I read. Shep was cocky and arrogant on the surface, but deep down he had a vulnerable side. Overall this was a good read.

Ugh the mmc was gross and just cared about her looks

This suffered by comparison with Alessandra Torre's Hollywood Dirt which I read immediately before this book.

This is absolutely new adult - poor-little-rich college boy Shep runs an illegal gambling house with his filthy rich friend Gabe and cousin Tristan. The three of them have a "One and Done" rule in relation to girls (nice!). Jade is with her boyfriend Joel at the gambling house one night, she is bored while he plays poker and talking to one of the other girls, making fun of Shep behind his back. Shep too is bored and listening with amusement. To alleviate his boredom he initiates a mad poker bet with Jade's boyfriend - if Shep wins he 'gets' Jade and if Joel wins he gets $50,000.

I read a summary of this book which suggested that Jade heartily dislikes Shep and makes him dance to her tune, that she has a sharp tongue and bad-mouths him as a man-whore. TBH I didn't see this. Just like in so many other NA/YA books there is a short interlude where the heroine has a backbone and is sassy - after that she just rolls over and is somehow powerless to resist Shep's all powerful charisma.

The book also seems to pull its punches. Heaven knows I can't bear the angst and drama of NA/YA novels generally but this sets things up for angst and then it peters out. Shep's cousin and friend look like they may cause some friction - Tristan in particular seems aggrieved that Shep is ignoring the One and Done rule, is there a story there? Actually, no. Shep's mother is a functioning high society drunk with expectations for Shep's future life partner. Potential for angst ... and no. Jade's mother has a new boyfriend who appears to be manipulating her and they are doing a lot of work on Jade's family home. Is he a con-man? And no. I just saw all these opportunities and they all fell a bit flat - who knew NA/YA could have too little angst?

It's ok but too similar to lots of other NA/YA books.

Typical NA with douche bag man-whore who doesn't respect women being interested in the feisty girl who turns him down because she is 'different', therefore he must have her. This girl is so much better than all the other girls cause she wont fall for his bullshit except she does, so she actually isn't any different. He wears her down, he fucks up, she swears she will have nothing to do with him again, he kiss/seduces her she caves in 5 seconds and they get back together the end. I HATE typical NA. So why keep reading it you ask. I blame Cora Carmack and her Rusk University series which is amusing, sexy and has likable characters. It keeps me wading through all the NA crap looking for the gems.

If the chemistry was the only concern on this book, I would give 5 stars. However, the plot was plain and simple. 4 stars for my preference on each characters

When I first started this I had conflicted feelings thinking it was going to be a 3 star read because I just didn’t think it was going to surprise me. And I was wrong. I actually really enjoyed it and think I’m going to try and finish the series.
