Elin Hilderbrand always does an excellent job creating interesting characters to maintain the reader's interest. While this particular novel was slightly predictable, it was still an enjoyable read.
I’m not quite sure how I feel about this one… the concept was interesting but I felt like it was missing a lot of the quintessential Nantucket charm we are used to reading about with Elin. I found Renata to be one of the most infuriating characters I have ever met and pretty much hated her whole story line. Marguerite’s story was more interesting but she as a character was bland. Both women claim to be strong and independent but are the complete opposite… idk. This just lacked the heart and feel-good vibes I’m used to in an Elin Hilderbrand novel.
However… I will say that this lady knows how to write about food!!! My mouth was watering throughout the whole novel. If you want a much better Nantucket/food themed novel with lovable characters and a heartwarming story, I highly recommend The Blue Bistro instead.

I liked this book right up until the end, where I was filled with abject horror at Marguerite's "penance"

Not my favorite Hildebrand. Lots is cheating troupes and just not as engaging as her others.
Another great story by Elin Hilderbrand. By now, I've read almost all of her books, and this was one of the better ones. The characters were interesting and believable, the story was intriguing and fast-paced, and the 'mystery' at the end (what everything was building up to) was sufficiently surprising. I wasn't really sure where the story was going, but I figured there was some sort of 'shocker' that would surface at some point. It turned out to be something pretty compelling, and I thought it meshed well with the story overall. By the end, almost everything was wrapped up in a nice little bow, just like I like it :)
Overall, a good read. I'll be passing this along to friends.
