One of her great novels. The story is told by 2 narrators. The first is a 65 year old woman who lost her best friend 15 years ago. The second is the dead woman's daughter. The daughter, Renata has come to meet her fiances family on Nantucket. The older woman, Marguerite lives on Nantucket. Renata makes plans to visit Marguerite but the novel follows both of them throughout the day. Renata travels to the beach where an acquaintance almost drowns and she sleeps with a man. Then she goes back to her fiance house and ends up running away to Marguerite's. Marguerite reminisces about her friend and their love for each other. Then when Renata comes over she reveals that she has professed her love moments before the woman was killed in a car accident and feels guilty. Renata's father comes over and everyone forgives.

This is the first of Elin's books that I've read. It was good and I enjoyed it but the story felt disjointed. I didn't know what to think of Renata ... She seemed extremely immature. I'm not sure about the book overall to be honest.
