I found myself not being invested in the characters at all. Usually, I get very invested with every book I read but not this time. The story just felt like it didn't matter at all.

Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

All in accessible verse. Good for middle grades!

I made it almost halfway bit gave up because I just couldn’t get comfortable with the choral style verse format. I tried reading it then switched to audio. No dice. I just couldn’t enjoy it.

Love the characters tho, and the idea

I loved this book.

The queer girl I was and didn't let myself be long ago would have loved this book, too. She would have read it and reread it and reread it until she finally figured out who she was.

Thanks, K.A. Holt.

Ooo, I loved this one. KA Holt never lets me down when I need a light, easy read. I love the perspectives of Tam and Kate, getting to see more of them made me so happy.

Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for making reading this ARC possible for me.

I am not normally a fan of novels in verse, but I really enjoyed Redwood and Ponytail.
I have been finding it very hard lately to connect to characters because of my reading slump but in this book, I couldn't stop smiling at how adorable their encounters were and I found myself feeling down whenever one of them was sad. I also liked the family aspect of the book.
All in all, this is an important read for youngsters who are trying to figure out who they are.

Rating: 3.5/5.

Told in verse this is a story of two girls one who is Kate a popular Cheerleader and Tam a tall jock who plays volleyball. This deals with a lot of issues such as friendships, family, mothers and sexuality issues. K. A. Holt does a wonderful job of bringing out the voices of these two girls and what they have to deal with as they start to learn more about themselves and what they want out of life.

This was a great coming of age story that is really realistic. It deals with topics of LGBTQIA+ issues and helps people come out of their shell. Would recommend to a parents of LGBTQIA+ identifing kids to help better understand their kids.
