The Regeneration Trilogy is a masterpiece. If you are interested in the first World War, these are must readings--compelling and skillfully written. While the second book in the trilogy may be the weakest, it still deals with issues at the home front--and is better, in my mind, than the much touted Birdsong.

I greatly enjoyed this book. Its characters were engaging; the mental battle of Rivers was highly intriguing. The portrayal of PTSD and war injuries were accurate. It wasn't terribly fast-paced, but it didn't drag on. There wasn't much diversity in the characters, however. There were hardly any women, and the soldiers all came from pretty similar demographics. It also contained fairly graphic descriptions of violence, so if it's not for people who are queasy about blood. The novel, although it is about a pretty dark topic, isn't a completely bleak and despondent. It has strong anti-war sentiments, but I dig it.

A marvel of a book. Beautifully written, poetic, and insightful on many of the most important questions of our time. Fascinating to me to see a book that is this engaging and magnetic although there is not exactly a plot that makes you turn the page. Rather you turn the page to see how the characters will deal with their circumstances (well, I guess that is a plot, after all).
My favourite book at the moment. Moving descriptions and harsh realities conveyed in the most fascinating detail.
