I appreciate all the chapters that give insight into her path of self realization. I would have liked more smut in to be honest but there’s room for more in future books to come. My favorite line:

“Like a fool, every time I write out my intentions for the new year I list ‘have someone to celebrate Valentine’s Day with‘ and like a fool I forget … I am someone”

Thoroughly enjoyed this memoir. I relate with the author on many levels and found this to be filled with nostalgia and sex positivity.

This was a raunchy, realized read. Perkins spills all about her very active sex life and her preferences in the bedroom. But she also writes well about pop culture and feminism.

A deeply personal and open collection of essays from a New York City writer that covers a variety of topics, from growing up in Nashville, Black women's sexuality, double standards, slut-shaming, online-dating, mental health, being a caretaker to a family member on the spectrum all through the lens of race. Read by the author, she does a great job and you can hear her getting choked up during some of the harder parts. Highly recommended. I loved how she embraced her sexuality and was unapologetic about her wants and needs, not giving in to societal pressure or expectations.

As I continue to read outside my norms, I chose this complication of Nicole Perkins’s life experiences. What a ride it’s been for her!! I laughed, nodded, and touched in agreement, and held my breath as I listened to her narrate. Trust me, the audio makes the stories POP!!

I loved this collection of essays! I read it after listening to an interview with the author on the podcast Call Your Girlfriend. Nichole writes in a way that is ruthlessly vulnerable and therefore feels so relatable. She puts it all out there! I also liked that there are plenty of pop culture references but not too many that I can’t keep up, haha! I know enough of pop culture but I’m no guru. She only sprinkles in the pop culture, I appreciate it! Overall a very enjoyable read.

Sometimes I Trip On How Happy We Could Be by Nichole Perkins. It's a book of essays and it is very good to have real life people reflect and realize that it's okay to have various emotions. She's the same generation as my mom but she feels like an aunty just chatting and telling me it will be okay.
