I loved it, the characters are all so unique and well-developed. Not much of a plot, but I enjoy Cassandra’s philosophizing and her dad’s artistic progression.

This book was everything that I typically love in a book, but I couldn't get into this one. I enjoyed the writing style, and the humor added a really nice touch, but I don't think the book needed to be so long. Nothing happens for the majority of the book, so all of the things that I liked about this book became boring.

Cute.
I picked this up because JKR said she admired the "voice" in this book. I can definitely see why this appealed to her. It's even got a Snape-sized plot twist (I'll leave it at that).
I had an odd feeling while reading this book. It was originally published in the late '40s, set in the '30s, and intentionally had a feeling of coming from an even earlier time (the castle, the Jane Austen references, etc). And then here I am more than 60 years later reading the story. Many, many layers of nostalgia to wade through.
Anyway, this book isn't going to blow your mind but it's cute, and it's more fun than most of the "chick lit" that comes out these days.
