Emily Henry

i liked seeing how the FMC came to terms with her father's cheating but i didn't like the 'justification' he gave her because cheating is still cheating and the book didn't really wrap it up that nicely (but maybe it doesn't need to be because there's not always an answer for everything).

as for the relationship between both characters, i felt the 'frenemy' aspect could be emphasised or played out more. it seemed like the connection between both characters weren't very strong, especially when they have known each other since a long time ago. nevertheless, still a good read

emily henry you have made a stan out of me today... this is my 4th emhen book and honestly i wish it had been my first. once again texted ally "happy place was just the worst place to start" (w emily henry's books) and i stand by it. i seriously enjoyed this so much and i think gus is my favorite out of all of her mmcs i've read so far (still need to read book lovers and great bbl! book lovers ur NEXT!) he is just so charming and so incredibly sweet and his banter with january is so fun to read. the way their relationship builds up is really good and i definitely think out of all the main couples (that i've read so far) january and gus have the most chemistry. the romance here is so good and made me feel so much their hugs made me want to die and gus slowly opening up to her made me want to die even more. also - i especially loved the depiction of january's grief for her father and also for her relationship with her mother, and how complicated people elicit complicated emotions and yet you cannot stop yourself from twistedly loving them. i was crying so hard during That One Part of the book (iykyk) like man... a father's love for his daughter is so... mannn...... i will be thinking about that for a while.

-0.25 for whatever shadi was. don't even get me started on that mess. i just think if you are going to include 1 singular poc character in your otherwise completely white cast you should at least explicitly mention ONCE her race. and not make her ENTIRE personality about men and literally nothing else. but maybe that's just me.

i fell in love with january and augustus in the donut shop, and every time i thought a romantic cliche might prove to be too much i was proven wrong with the way they were made raw and real by their chemistry and the writing. it’s not just the romance — i loved reading the complexities in january’s life, the way she had to grapple with grief, and her just-as-complicated relationships with people. throw in her sad, little yearner who loves to read, and considered me sold.

Everything I’d hoped it be and more

I absolutely love and adored this book!!

I love how they went from “enemies” to lovers in the least cringey way possible.
