This book was amazing. Once I cracked it open I couldn't put in down. I finished this book in 3 hours.
This is the story of Alan Christoffersen who goes from being on top of the world to having everything that could go wrong (go wrong) in the stretch of a few days.
Alan decided to pursue a dream of his and walk from Seattle to Key West, Florida. Along the way he wrestles with many feelings and meets many different people. This book is the first book in a series and the only spoiler I will give away is that it takes more than one book to completely tell his story.
I was able to relate to the story of Alan (though on a much smaller level) and the feelings he had to sort through. The story was very believable and not this "easy as pie" path I have seen other writers do (which made me lose interest in their books). I really felt like I was walking alongside Alan on his adventures and look forward to reading the next book in the series. This is my favorite read so far in 2014.

"Why isn't this book a bestseller ?" Was my thought all along the book.
Seriously, I really really loved this book, it taught me so much, it didn't need any cliffhangers at the end of chapters. It was just gripping. I couldn't let go until I got to the half. I can't even explain how this book grips you. But it just does. Such a great book ! I probably will remember a bunch of sentences from it; it was quite the inspiring read <3
That ending.

Good idea, but too much about the food ate and where he slept and not enough about people.
What a quick read! The whole concept of setting off to walk across America is intriguing, and Evans is a great storyteller.
This book was a quick, easy read. I read it in one sitting. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was a bit different than I thought it would be. For one, "the walk" didn't start until half way through the book - so I wasn't expecting all the things that happened before then. Tears, people. Wasn't prepared for that.
The book reads more like non-fiction than fiction, as if Alan was a real person and this was a retelling of his true story. I enjoyed the second half of the book better than the first. I liked "meeting" the people he met along the way and hearing their stories. I thought the "walk" part of the book was a bit short. I expected him to get farther along on his journey before the story ended. It seemed a little abrupt to me. Overall, it was a nice, feel-good kind of book.
4 of 5 stars. It was good, but missing the "wow" factor.
Would I recommend it to my BFF? Sure.
Would I recommend it to my 13 year old daughter? Maybe. It would be fine for her to read, but I don't know that she'd enjoy it much.

I read this book for book club. It was super sad and just when I thought it couldn't get worse it did. This poor guy! When he started walking I felt better for him, but even then it was a bit boring (walk, eat, camp). I am glad I experienced a book I'd never choose myself.
the intro ad campaigns were hilarious. the way he describes loss through action instead of words makes it very real. the esoteric stuff was a bit hard to swallow but overall it was funny and insightful story. ended a bit abruptly but i guess that's why it's a series.
I read this for an inspirational story prompt as it came up under a Google search. I found it more sad than anything else. He doesn't even finish his walk in this story. Not sure if I'll carry on and read the next books if not.
