What an interesting book! The magic system is creepy, fascinating, and truly unique. I really enjoyed the characters, and the shifting points of view were handled skillfully, enriching the story. Some spark was missing, but I can’t put my hand on what it was. Nonetheless I’m excited to continue with the series.

I really loved the worldbuilding and the story, but the characters are so stupid! Lot of times I couldn't understand why they would act like that. I couldn't like the majority of them because of that. However, I wanted to read more in this world and to know what happens next. A very unbalanced novel in my opinion
The setup? Solid. The characters? Promising. The plot? Intriguing enough to keep me turning the pages. But the payoff? Meh. It was like waiting for fireworks and getting a sparkler.
I kept thinking, okay, now it’s gonna take off… any second now… and then-nothing. Will I read the second book? Honestly, probably not. It didn’t exactly leave me dying to know what happens next. It ended up being just fine.

A bit slow and monotonous for me (except for Mephi, he’s the real one), but it has enough creativity and unfinished mysteries that I’ll likely be reading the sequel. Looking forward to learning more about the Alanga and Mephi’s species!

HERE FOR LIN SUKAI AND THE LESBIANS🤭🤭😻😻💋💋
DNF @ 20%. I want to like this a lot. The concept is so interesting. But I'm struggling with the style and with finding the characters not as engaging as I want them to be. *side eyes* Maybe this is one I'll come back to at a later time. We'll see. (Time to make a shelf of books to possibly revisit, I guess.)

Super interesting world building, well-paced, with a strong set of main characters. Each character is well defined, with a history and a set of goals that makes them easily distinguishable. The alternating POV is a bit hard to grasp, but it comes together well at the end. The bone shard magic and the other possible types of magic kept me very engaged and excited to find out more. I find I’m more connected to the world rather than the characters, but I’m looking forward to the next books to see if they build upon what they have.
The story does lack a lot of foreshadowing for the incoming events and discoveries, but there is very rarely a dull moment, and the pace makes the lack less noticeable. There still remain a lot of unanswered questions which I hope that later installments will have answers for.
