Poetry books can, understandably, be very hit and miss depending on the content and how/if I can connect to the poet and their message. And holy moley, let me tell you; this was 100% a hit pour moi. I feel like I can't even explain it, but it was just so good and it felt like the author reached out and touched my soul through words alone.
I'm just gonna mention some favourite pieces that I can't stop thinking about. They're the sort of things that you just need to marinate in and allow the wisdom to soak into you.
- Miscellaneous thoughts on love
- Queer girl overture
- Abridged things to let go if you want to be happy
- Personal reflections on gender
The reason I loved it so much is that for a lot of the time spent reading it, it felt like a gentle but persistent reminder about the fact that, yes, there's lots of change that needs to happen, but you can still orient your life around the things you love and find peace within yourself.
There was some pretty heavy stuff, either mentioned in passing or talked about with a bit more depth, and I really appreciated the very clear trigger warnings that were laid out at the start of the book. It's always nice knowing what you're about to dive straight into.
