Noor is such a well written, engaging Afrofururist story. I was fully engrossed in the story and lost in the world, I didn't want to put it down.

The world creation is just fantastic, Okorafor seamlessly transports the reader to a future Nigeria that feels so real. I appreciated the time taken to really flesh out the world. The action really picks up towards the end.

I really enjoyed it and highly recommend Noor to sci-fi lovers.

Three, maybe 3.5 stars. I enjoy this author's books because the concepts are always very cool and she makes you think about different types of futures. The writing is also very smooth. However, I didn't feel much connection to the characters as they had these profoundly terrible experiences, went on the lam, and subsequently tried to take down Amazon Ultimate Corp. I liked it from the cerebral angle but not the emotional angle.

Not that that will stop me from just as eagerly picking up her next book...

Like all Okorafor works the world she creates is vibrant. She excels at describing the amazing benefits of technology (prosthetic limbs for those whose natural limbs are damaged) and horrifying results of technology (unnatural disasters, mega-powerful corporations that control what is known and considered true.) And she does a great job describing how one can be ostracized for being different, be it physically (cybernetic limbs) or culturally (old fashioned herdsman).
She also makes some great cows.

What doesn't work in this story for me is the sudden ability of our hero to be not only fully wifi capable but fully able to control all internet devices. And if I ignore that oddity, her failure to simply bring down Ultimate Corp by locking (or zeroing) their bank accounts, bricking their servers, having their executives and board of directors seized by military drones, etc.
