Interesting book. Not what I expected, but a very moving story. Lots of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, and a few that I did.

This pulls you right in, the descriptions are so rich but the chapters are short so it really hooks you. All the characters are so layered and the writing is stunning. It doesn’t hold your hand but allows you to piece things together. I was a little confused in some places and it took a long time to get where it was going then wrapped up very fast. Still one of my top reads this year.

This was an amazing book and emotional rollercoaster. I love the character and couldn’t put the book down.

This was a good book! I enjoyed it and for the most part, it kept me entertained. Maybe because I went in with ridiculously high hopes, I was expecting it to become a favorite of mine. And it’s not that it’s bad. In fact, it’s quite well written and an interesting story. It’s just not one that I felt was going to be one I raved about.

The story is engaging and interesting. It’s a blend of literary fiction and mystery. With short chapters and those chapters focusing on two particular characters, Saint and Patch, I thought the whole book was well done and engaging. It had some twists I wasn’t expecting and blended genres to create something worth reading.

But I did feel like the story dragged a bit. It was a bit long and I didn’t feel it needed to be as long as it was. Because it was so long, I felt my interest wane throughout, some sections more powerful and attention keeping than others.

Overall, this is a really good book. I just didn’t love it the way other people did. You should read it if you like well written books,  character stories with mystery, literary fiction, and thought provoking stories.

I had to sit with this one for a beat before I wrote this review. 3.5 stars rounded up. I really liked this book, although like most people I felt like it dragged in the middle. I would have preferred if the pace of the book was consistent throughout. I also found it hard to invest in the search for Grace without knowing if she was real. So much happens to these people that you really have to suspend your disbelief quite a lot. At times it felt like reading Forest Gump (even down to the introduction of Charlotte, seemed like an exact ripoff of a similar scene in FG the movie?!). I knew going in that this isn’t a traditional thriller/mystery, and I enjoyed that, but I almost wanted more info on the killer.
I loved the description of the town. I could picture myself walking through it. Also loved the characters, even those who seemed unbelievable (Charlotte…not buying that a six year old talks like that). This is a book I won’t forget. Read for book club.

Generational trauma, the novel. Midway through this book I got quite bored, but then it started unfolding in unprecedented ways. The twists were so understated yet monumental, I didn’t even notice when it had pulled me in fully. I don’t know if I would recommend this exactly… but there’s just something about it.

This was such a beautiful book and reminded me a lot of A Little Life (in terms of characters and their connections, not the trauma).
This is potentially now in my top 5 because it was just something special.
I love the mix of crime/light thriller mixed with love and strong characters.
Entirely and absolutely.
