This was really cute. I loved the narration style. I loved the ending. I'm excited to read more of E. Nesbit's book!

My first read book using the app Audiobooks.
Voice was very English and grammar very old fashion. I loved it!
Ideal to use during a walk in the country.

The country's at war, and Dad is missing! A new home, exploration, and danger!
This was so cute?! I have no memory of this story at all even though my mum tells me I was obsessed with it at one point but ah well at least I can say with certainty that I have read it now!
This was such a sweet little story, and I didn’t realise that it was written by Edith Nesbit until now, but then I didn’t pay that much attention to the author when I was younger and apparently more obsessed with it.
I remember first thinking that this had something to do with war and that was why the family had to move away, and actually being taken aback a little when it was revealed that the father had been falsely imprisoned and that was why the family had to leave. But it adds a whole new element to the story that I think you wouldn’t have gotten from anything else.
And the characters of the children weren’t dreadful to read, as some of the older books with children main characters usually are. Although, it’s quite funny how terribly British the story is.

A classic childhood book. Gives me British boxcar children vibes. I definitely appreciate the insight into the time period through this rare children's literature work.
