The Railway Children

3.87 AVERAGE

For a heart-warming (and free - librivox) story, this gets 5 stars. But for something that touches on all the important ideas of reality, philosophy, metaphysics, ethics, history, quantum mechanics, game theory, parenting, relationships, educational theory, etc, it drops .52 stars. So, 4.48.

Took me a while to finish the audiobook. Not because I didn't like it but because I mostly listen to audiobooks on public transport and I had semester break in between and preferred to not listen to something for a while.
I really liked the book, it was relaxing and perfectly encapsulated childhood, in my opinion. I didn't like the ending though, it felt a little... lazy? And it kind of came out of nowhere. The conflict solved itself. Which should never be the case. Except when that's the message e.g. something bothersome like a rumor blowing over or something.

I have never read this book previously, not even as a child. But I have to say that I am happy I have read it now.

While reading this amazing Children's classic I felt very nostalgic of when I used to go see all of the steam trains on the railway. I felt like, because I have had this experience, I could appreciate it more.

I am glad to say I have read it and I loved the ending and the way it was written. I just live it all, including the characters and all of their adventures they go on.

books that are "meant for children" often turn out to be the most delightful of reads, and this was no different. i enjoyed the both the plot as well as the characters thoroughly. while Bobbie was easily my favourite, and Mother a close second, Phyllis and Peter made me wonder just how much I've missed out on by being an only child. this story was just overall heartwarming, filled with friendship, kindness, sorrow and excitement and i cried and laughed an equal number of times. also, the last paragraph is without a doubt something i need printed on a poster or something to keep by my bookshelf.
