I like the narration but why is the plot various people just complaining with a sprinkle of racism?

An interesting book that follows three generations of an Irish family. Throughout this book, the reader learns not only about the members of the family but Irish culture at the time. For example, at the beginning of the book, the author explains parts of Irish folk-lore like fairy-mounds and banshees. I also liked how the men in the book were the gold diggers and they were 100% honest about it. Overall this was a fun and quick read.

Actually genuinely flabbergasted that this book has an average rating of 2.88, we read this for college and I absolutely loved it! (As did my lecturer so he probably showed very well why it was as good as it was) The paratextual elements were incredible, two unreliable narrators?? One of them being a fake editor of the book?? In 1800?? Cmonnnnn. The use of glossary and footnotes to create a story within the story was just great. And the writing itself was also so good?? A really interesting tale of the failing family rackrent. I so genuinely never say this but I feel the people who don't like this book at all just missed the meanings and techniques within it. Like critique of landlords, starting an entire genre?? Maria Edgeworth fan club where are you at.

A good little tale about a family home and the many people who own it over the years. Not a lot happens but it was interesting and very atmospheric.
