I always learn so much in Lisa See’s novels. The research and information that goes into each story is enlightening and educational, but also flows nicely in a well-written story. I loved diving into fifteenth century China and learning about this (actual real life!) female doctor. It touches on female empowerment and highlights how strong and incredible women have been since the beginning.

Story of how friendships between women can last a lifetime, surpassing heartbreak and tragedy. Based on a true account of a female doctor during the 15th-16th in China, it provides an insight into what life was like at the time. Lady Tan's work carried on for centuries to follow, setting a precedence for medicine in China and women in the health industry. It took a while to get into to, but once I did, I couldn't put it down.
