A mistress of a fabulously rich Russian meets an artist. Jealousy, intrigue, and possibly freedom ensue.

The writing style took some getting used to, it reads like a summary almost. I didn't anticipate actually finishing this book, but I did and found it to be quite enjoyable. I'm not sure that I would read another by this author due to the writing style, but who knows.

This was one of the worst books that I've read in a long time. I had never read a Danielle Steel novel before, and she's so prolific that I figured I would test this one out. While normally I would give the author the benefit of the doubt and just say "I'm not into this genre," this book was objectively terrible. SO REPETITIVE, oh my goodness!!! How many times do we have to hear about Natasha being beautiful, or grateful, or etc. etc. or Vladimir being rich?! Sometimes entire phrases would pop up over and over again. Such lazy writing and editing! There was almost no plot, the climax was nonexistent, and all the characters are 1-dimensional and boring stereotypes. The rich and cruel Russians... the starving artists... the widow who won't let go... so trope-y and boring! I don't recommend this book. I feel like I just wasted an afternoon.

I enjoyed this one but the ending seemed rushed

I enjoyed this book. Hers are hit or miss for me - sometimes they seem like total schlock and sometimes they're much more enjoyable. This was the latter. A fun and easy read and nice escape for a few days!

I haven't read ( or in this case listened) to a Danielle Steel book in over 20 years! Thought it was time to try. I found that I really enjoyed this book, her development of characters, and it had some parts I didn't anticipate, which is why I quite reading her books so long ago--they were too predictable. The only flaw was I thought this story ended too abruptly....I wish it took a few more twists and turns before it ended.

i love trashy books, but danielle steel books are just not for me. formulaic writing with no interest, incredibly simple stories, and repetitive descriptions instead of any character development.

Not her best, I read it when it first came out BUT I was at Barnes and Noble and said how pretty the cover was! So I picked it up in the bargain box at B&N a few days ago and It was as bad as I remembered it!
I found myself re-reading complete paragraphs previously encountered earlier in the book. Even more peculiar were incidents described in minute detail before they had even occurred in the chronology.

This novel is the typical Danielle Steel of years past when the heroine is extremely wealthy. Those are my least favorite. The book was an easy read, so I finished. I loved the last 50 pages when she lost all of her money and learned how to live with less and found out who she really was.

Lately I have been disappointed by her new releases, but "The Mistress" is a throwback to the more traditional style of writing that Danielle Steel fans are used to. 'The Mistress' is full of incredibly glamorous and completely unrealistic people who travel in the world of fine art and luxury yachts. The story was painfully obvious at times and the characters are shallow and stereotypical, but it is fun to vicariously spend some time in the world of the super rich. There is no better way to waste an afternoon than reading a Danielle Steel novel.
