This book took a bit of reading and lowering expectations to really get into. I had to reach way back to my teen years to really grasp the story and not be all annoyed with the lead character who just seemed pathetically obsessed with her ex. in my adult mind. By lowering my expectations for the story i was able to enjoy it though I still dislike the "nice guy' gets the girl ending since everyone knows "nice guys" like her friend are just annoying in real life.

The relationship with her ex. was very realistic. I saw this sort of relationship play out as a teen and in my early 20s. Handler did a great job of capturing that time in life. I was not as impressed with the art aspect of the book...it seemed sort of lackluster.

Overall, it wasn't a bad read but also is not a book to rush out and add to my home library. Definitely one to borrow from the library.

Worst book I have ever read. Perhaps if I was 10 years old I would have liked this.

This is top notch YA fiction. Min is a fantastic character who leaps off the page, and into an intense and unlikely relationship with Ed. Min loves film, her friends, coffee and marches to her own beat. Ed is the heart throb jock with eyes and words to seduce one and all.
High school is a fierce, fast paced arena, and the breakneck speed of this relationship rings true. The writing is tight, the voice authentic, and the story an absolute page turner.
Loved it.

Min's voice in this book is great. I love how we progress through her relationship with Ed in mementos. I also enjoyed her attitude, that, even though we know they've broken up, and there are hints that she was wronged in the process sprinkled throughout her narrative, she is never bitterly dramatic in the telling. It reads as an honest, raw confession about how the relationship, and it's dissolution, impacted her.

Be prepared for tears and flashbacks if you've ever had your heart broken. I couldn't hold either of them back.

I didn't like this one. It felt like a writing exercise, not something you would intend to publish. He should stick to his lemony snicket stuff!

Age: 7th grade-High School

I really disliked Ed, a douchy jock bro and I just couldn't understand why Min fell so fast in love with him.

That being said, I will recommend this book to teens. It's a great romance about first love and opposites attracting. Even though I had no empathy for the relationship, I tried to get to the end (my e-audiobook expired!) because I wanted to see what train wreck finally pushed them apart since being a general asshat wasn't enough. Also, the characters were genuine and believable--a must for most readers. With this in mind, I can see this book being read by females and males alike because the male character isn't hokey and the romance isn't mushy (it is titled "Why We Broke Up" after all).

The audiobook had a great narrator who offered just the right intonation to the guy characters without sounding ridiculous. Like my luck, though, this book had supplementary pieces of artwork that, apparently, added dimension and intrigue.

Wow. Read this and immediately bought it for a friend.

My expectations may have been too high. This started out as though it was going to be a subtle unraveling of a relationship, but then there's a big, dramatic revelation at the end that left me kind of cold. Very evocative of high school, except even the jerks I dated in high school were nowhere near as jerky as Ed.

Min, I hope you have the best time ever in college.

Enjoyed it a lot. There were a few incidents in the story where I (sort of) understood what made Ed so appealing to Min, but mostly found him uninteresting and unlikeable. But that's the point, isn't it?
