I wanted to shake Min and shout "what is wrong with you?!" But since I haven't been a teenage girl in quite some time that really can't be too surprising. I can only guess that Mr. Handler has been a teenage girl more recently as he was able to put himself (and me) into the head of one (teenage girl) rather convincingly. And Maira Kalman (the illustrator) just rocks.

I liked it. Min's stream of consciousness style is actually perfect given the narrative frame, but may grate on some picky readers. But readers who can follow it will be pleased with author Daniel Handler's eloquence. The illustrations are an interesting touch, though the fancy, glossy art paper makes this book very heavy.
One of my favorite parts of this book is actually on the back jacket, where various authors briefly describe their own experiences with heartbreak. That was pretty entertaining.

im gonna stick with vampire and witches.....this book was like listening to one of those dramatic girls complain about every little detail of their relationship, and even little item that is a part of it.
Yes, I see why you broke up. But what I don't see, is why did you even ended up together?!?
I have never been so angry to a character, ever. And now I'm in a bad mood.
Just, everything in this book felt stupid to me... I liked 2 side characters a little.

17yr old me loves Daniel Handler as much as 11yr old me loved Lemony Snicket. I read this book just a few weeks after I broke up with my boyfriend, and it was so weird to see some of the parallels. I wish that I could write my ex a letter as beautiful and poignant as this book, so maybe he could understand. Also, the artwork was incredible.
