Third time reading this, still so good. Pick up new things with every read.

Great book if you want a little advice about how to be a better writer. One doesn't have to follow every advice he gives, but a lot of it is useful to at least be aware of.

I read this ages ago but things he said in it pop up in my mind all the time. Especially when I'm currently reading one of his books. It's hard to give it stars though... it was so long ago.

Neatly expounds on the qualities of good writing. If you wish to be quick with it then read just the "On Writing" section. It is a must read for writers. It will organise your own intuitive techniques for you if not add more to your repertoire.

On writing

No passive voice
No adverbs
A thousand words a day with a week off over three months
All that is necessary for a writing room is a closed door
Never tell something when you can show it

Reread this someday

Hard not to appreciate a book that makes you smile when your dreams are about to come crashing down around you. Again. But King's book is honest and inspiring and reminds the artist deep inside of us that there is possibility out there and you have to try, and work. Good grammar, good imagination and deep love of story. Good place to start.
