A two part story staring with the General Bel Riose who vehemently despised the influence the subtle the first foundation has over the galactic empire. He seeks to destroy them and gains an unlikely ally in the diplomat of the King. However, his attempt ends in defeat as he is arrested by the king. Who influenced the king to consider his most prominent general a traitor?

The second part deals with the mule as magnifico and the unlike beta Dayrell and her husband attempting to find the second foundation. Many things happen in Kalgan, Terminus, and Trantor but generally the mule gets away with it at least for now.

As a sequel, I went into this book expecting much. And while the ending as very satisfactory, the majority of this entry suffered similarly to the first - sluggish and verbose.

I do understand the need for it, now, on the other side of the last chapter. However, I would've preferred more action as opposed to expositional conversations; there are lots of large events that are regularly hinted at throughout the book, and I'd be much more interested in reading about those (though, I've come to suspect this series is mainly about the people themselves, which likely means I'll have to adjust my expectations going forward).

In all, it was a decent story, if only average. It did keep me interested, so I will jump into the next one willingly.

I enjoyed this one much more than the first one and the ending was good. I will say I’m not a fan of the slight sexist and misogynistic vibes but I know that has to do with the time period in which these books were written.

End of the story made up for the middle

There's women! Foundation and Empire isn't as good as Foundation. The increased story scope works against Asimov here, as he's less able to maintain interesting twists. The final story is the longest, most significant, and the least engaging — although we have left the competent men behind, at least for a little while, by the finale.

Just incredibly boring like the first book. Entirely comprised of characters(I can never keep track of who and it doesn't seem to matter) talking but none of them seem to be saying much. Not for me
