I very much enjoyed this book. The author really takes her time in letting us get to know the characters - to include many of the members of the small community of Jericho. And there are a few good hat tips to Xena & Gabrielle; Jericho was initially posted online as a Xena uber.

Andy and I just got done recording episode 30 of Cocktail Hour and Ann McMan joined us to talk about the book. Her humor definitely comes through in the book. She was a blast to talk with!

She is currently working on a sequel to Jericho and her story Dust will be published in a month or so.

I do recommend Jericho if you enjoy a long romance with a good sense of humor.

I really didn't get these two for the first couple chapters, until they found themselves alone together at Maddie's house and felt all awkward in the speed of their friendship. Then I was sold on their complete adorableness.

Pet peeve: the "I may be writing genre fiction, but I know plenty about fancy things like literature and classical music" thing, far from unique to this book, and fortunately less glaring as it went on. So I guess I shouldn't read books with musicians as main characters, but she was advertised as a librarian! And do we really need to know the EXACT bottle of wine?

Read this originally online and I don't think that there is much difference between the two versions. A few grammar issues still in the published version and the dog got renamed in one paragraph. :) I do believe that there was a short story giving a further epilogue online, plus a very funny short piece the author wrote about the characters taking over the story.

All in all, a great romance. It has a slow build up, but the characters (main and supporting) are well developed and the dialogue is hilarious.
Spoiler I kind of wish she had left out the Henry subplot ... kind of made the HEA a bit too HEA

Xena and Gabrielle met Gilmore Girls et voilĂ . Nothing else you need to know. Just kidding.

This is the second time I'm reading this book (series), first that I'm reading the paperback and lemme tell ya, it was as good as the first one (and I don't know why I didn't review it before).

It's ironic that when it was released, way over a decade ago, at that time, I was so desperate for some crumbs of lesbian entertainment yet never even crossed my mind that I could read sapphic literature, it would've opened so many doors to me, been mind opening, but I'm glad I've got the opportunity to read them when I did, because I don't think I'd have enjoyed it as much as now (that and I'm sure my complete lack of English literacy at the time would've been a problem haha).

The story is absolutely gorgeous, is witty, quirky, eccentric, funny, sweet, heartwarming, intriguing... I could go on for hours finding positive adjectives to describe Jericho (and the sequels, I'm about to read them again). ALL the characters (okay, 99,99% of them) bring something to the table and even though they aren't the MC you get excited, even anxious, to see them again. At least I did. Talking about MC, both Maddie and Syd are just my kind of heroines, I love wholesome, feisty, honourable and loyal characters and they are these and some. They complement each other, their chemistry is perfection. Every time they interacted I had a goofy smile on my face. Honestly, I had a goofy smile pretty much all the time with the exception of when I was cackling or giggling.

And don't I love me some LOOOOONG ass story? 501 pages, it's heaven! Well, now that I've read the paperback I'm not so sure anymore, the first time reading Jericho I did it digitally, now with the paperback my wrist was imploring for some mercy lmao. But hear me out, it's worthy it, touching the pages is something else. So if slow burn/long stories is not your thing maybe it's an opportunity to get on the club or well, RIP trying.

Not sure why this book got a 4.2. It's not bad but it's not good either. Reading this is like reading a fanfic. Too long and too many unnecessary chapters. DNF.

Pleasant to read, it nevertheless also managed to bore me in the end. It's an idyllic small-town romance, with librarian Syd moving to the small town of Jericho to meet the local doctor Maddie and fall in love with her. Chemistry was good, but once the romance was established, it got too saccharine sweet and predictable for me. Not sure if I have the heart to pick up the sequel.

It was pretty well-written, so there's that.

3 to 3.5 stars.

In my lectures for one of my classes, my professor was reading bits from librarian romances. Which was rather amusing. So I ended up deciding to go off and find one to read. The fact that it started out as an uber Xena fanfic was just a bonus. It was kind of noticeable, but probably a lot of that was because I knew before reading what it started as. Although I think I would have picked up on it eventually even if I hadn't known in advance. Anyways, it was... not bad. Which is probably as good as I'm ever going to get when rating a romance novel. The end felt a bit too happy. Which, I know, what did I expect reading a sappy romance. But things just worked out a little too perfectly, especially with the kid. The kid could go away. And the fact that they're in the middle of Nowhere, Virginia or something and yet almost everyone seems to be pretty much cool with homosexuality. Other than that though, it was fairly enjoyable.
