The plot is a bit YA and there's a definite Hunger Games kinda vibe but it's extremely well written and a great read.

Dystopian future where the world is ruled by a few huge corporations. This story takes place in one city that's a literal battle ground between two of the mega-corps, Mallory is a young woman barely surviving small time gigs like shoveling snow and walking dogs and on tips from her stream playing a MMO called BestLife. When she randomly runs into one of the game's rare superstars suddenly her streaming is going gangbusters and someone wants to hire her for a bit of investigative work. Not surprisingly complications ensue.

I don’t get why this book has an lgbtqia flag. Other than one very minor character using they/them pronouns, everyone seems pretty cis/straight. If you’re looking for queer themes, they aren’t apparent in this book.

This book is mare like a fast spreading wildfire. It starts out sounding very much like Ready Player One with its emphasis on gamer culture and streaming but by the halfway point that sense of familiarity is gone. What replaces it is something else entirely.

This book is set in the near future in a hyper capitalist United States run by two mega corporations who (pretend?) to be at war with each other. People live 8 to a room and work 8 different jobs in the gig economy and line up daily for water rations. Everything they buy is from the company store. That’ll sound familiar to the history buffs out there.

Through in some missing kids and a secret super soldier program and a gamer who stumble cusses their way through solving the mystery and what you end up with is a pretty good story.

I'm fascinated by the packaging that places this as a standalone, because it's about someone encountering the Ghost and Foster in their actual lifetimes and uncovering some of the horrors that made them. It was good, but nothing like as strong as Archivist Wasp or Latchkey, and I don't know if I would have liked it as much if I wasn't already fully invested in the world and 06 and 22's lives; the main character is likewise invested.
