I thought this book was very sweet. Overall I enjoyed the pace of most of the book.
I think some of Peter and Madi's relationship seemed rushed and not believable, but many romance books tend to be like that.
I think this book could have used more depth in some areas to make my feel more connected to the characters.
Overall adorable story and will read more from this author. Thank you Netgalley for an advanced copy to review.

"How can having a path charted for you be the worst that you can imagine? To me, the worst is walking in the dark, only because you’re stubborn enough not to turn the lights on."
This book was such a beautiful read! The descriptions of Puerto Rico, the food and music and nature sound, the romance, the messages - everything was beautifully written. I've never been to PR, but reading this made me feel like I could visualize and experience everything the characters were!
"I want to think I have a say in who I become...I want to live my life intentionally."
This is the kind of story that left me feeling inspired, peaceful and hopeful. It was a fun and easy read with big, powerful messages.
"You’re going to do incredible. You’ll see."

I really wanted to love this book but… I kind of hated it. The way the main character Madi changes in one week does not feel believable, and her naïveté is obnoxious. I really liked her love interest Peter, but their love story happened way too quickly and honestly left me confused. There were also little things throughout the book that rubbed me the wrong way, like the translation of tostones as “plantain fritters”, the way Madi is warned by a local to stay away from a housing project in PR, the fact that she’s not familiar with the coquí (Puerto Rican tree frog and probably the most recognizable symbol of the island) despite having grown up visiting with her abuela. I did love the beautiful descriptions of different parts of the island, and I wanted to see more of Madi’s besties. But overall this was a miss for me. I’m sure there are others who will like it, though, and I hope this story is found by someone who needs it.

Such a beautiful story for a hard time in life right now. Glad there are authors celebrating Puerto Rico 💖
Not very well written. I did not like the FMC. She was mad at her boyfriend for not reading her mind while also ignoring all of his explicit statements about their relationship.
