Unfortunately, I just couldn't finish this book.
First, I loved the premise; my favourite part of what I read was just the description of the setting and culture. And the beginning, setting up Madi's story was engaging. The problem was as the story shifted to the present. I couldn't connect with Madi or any one of the other characters, and I felt that there was too much repetition to really get into the story. The insta-love fell flat and overall, Madi's inner monologue felt a little juvenile and kept me from caring about who she ended up with.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

The romance aspect of this book was a bit off. While I understand that Madi was big on her vision that happened as a teenager, it was odd. She’s gone her entire life only dating men with the initials JR, and then she finds herself in love with Peter. It wasn’t really explained how she literally threw out her entire belief that someone with the initials JR would be her soulmate, for someone named Peter. I am hit and miss with insta love, and this one was just over the top and too ill explained for me to like it. I did enjoy the magical feeling of Puerto Rico. After reading some great reviews by those familiar with Puerto Rico though I am disappointed the author failed to do her research on the area. It is frustrating and sad to me when this happens, and it seems that the author perpetuated some stereotypes that are hurtful. I feel that if you are going to write about a place, you should at least be factually correct.
I got my copy from Once Upon A Bookclub, and while the book is gorgeous I am frustrated that they offered this book. I hope in the future the author does her part to put an end to hurtful stereotypes instead of sharing them.

The reason why they couldn't be together wasn't technically miscommunication, but it definitely felt like it which pulled me out of their love story
For as long as she can remember, Madi has been searching for her soulmate. As a teenager, her beloved grandmother visited her in a dream and revealed to her that the love of her life would have the initials JR.
Now in her 30s, she’s pursued and failed at multiple relationships that match her vision but didn't work out. Just when she thinks that her serious boyfriend with the right initials is about to pop the question, he instead breaks up with her, leaving her heartbroken.
Still hopeful, she embarks on a trip to her ancestral Puerto Rico to spread her grandmother's ashes where she meets her alluring tour guide Peter- who she spends an unforgettably magical evening with. But despite their immediate and electrifying connection, his initials aren't JR.
Now Madi must decide whether to give her feelings for Peter a chance, going against everything she’s held true, or if she's willing to walk away from him in order to keep seeking out her fate.
This sweet contemporary romance set on the enchantingly beautiful island of Puerto Rico will delight readers who enjoy diverse and multicultural characters and storylines prominently featuring spirituality and travel.
