This was a cute read, but it seemed to get a little silly in the last 1/3 of the story. Still, I think this could be a fun summer fluff read.
I was really intrigued by the premise of this book and enjoyed the character development, side characters and touch of magic realism. Unfortunately it left me wanting more of these elements so, overall, it fell a little flat for me. Although Madi and Peter started their relationship with insta-love which I have trouble connecting to, I enjoyed where their relationship went. I thought the third act break up was a little unrealistic but I enjoyed rooting for Madi to find herself throughout the book. I think this is a fun book to read in a beach setting (especially on vacation) but I wish it stood out to me more than it did.

I read this for a romcom with Puerto Rico vibes. The romance didn’t vibe for me probably because I wasn’t a fan of the main character. The time jumps were super weird in the storyline and the way it wrapped up made no sense to me. Also, some of the PR stuff wasn’t super accurate, but still, it made me crave a malta and a mofongo :)
This book was so beautiful! It was a love letter to Puerto Rico la Isla del Encanto. She wrote it so beautifully I felt like I was right there along with them. Madi feels like she's in a rut in her life and is going to Puerto Rico to figure things out after she feels nothing else has worked out. She's in love with the idea of being in love with a certain type of person but meets someone that's the total opposite of that but makes her feel everything she's always wanted to feel. In turn, she's also found herself.
Yamile has a way of writing these beautiful love stories without shying away from the political strife that is plaguing these countries. There's no way around it, it affects everything that we do we might as well face it and do something about it. That's what makes her books and characters so poignant and relatable. She has definitely become an auto-buy author for me.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review, as always, all words are my own.

Could have been written better. I did enjoy the parts about Puerto Rico and it’s people.
