I felt as though I would be interested in this book and then not interested the next minute. Honestly, at times I had to force myself to read it. But, the last quarter of the book got really good. And I am glad I made it to the end because it really ended up being a beautiful book.
Ugh! Any book about a dog will make me cry! This one was no different. I went through so many emotions during this book. I felt so sad for Denny and his situation, life really kept shitting on him. But his perseverance and unwillingness to roll over and die was very inspiring.
Enzo made me want to snuggle my pup and talk to her like a human! This made me realize they understand way more than we think.
Overall I liked it a lot. How can you not like a book where the main character is a dog?

It started out slow, and then felt like it really sped along for the second half. I don't know much about cars and have never seen a car race, so a lot of the metaphors there went a bit over my head. The perspective of the dog was a cute idea, and the writing style effective. I tested up a bit at the ending.
Spoiler: the plot device of the false rape accusation is a real problem. It was written well, to be sure; especially from the perspective of the helpless dog who is unable to protect his innocent master. I definitely hated the characters I was supposed to hate, so the author did his job. However, with real rape charges being too often dismissed in real life, and the wildly held false belief that false rape charges are common and spiteful, I question the morality of a man writing in this plot line. Unless of course this is something he is actually drawing on from personal experience, in which case I apologize for diminishing his experience. I would just be concerned about who is reading this book and what message they are taking from it.

Really enjoyed this book...not your typical dog story...
Not sure how this book got such a high rating. I thought this would be a nice, sweet little read from a dog's perspective, but it was something else entirely.
The whole racing being a metaphor for life didn't really work for me. There were literal chapters trying to make the comparison, and it just fell flat and reallllllyyy made me lose interest. I honestly feel the book would have been significantly better without the author trying to make this forced comparison.
I really liked the idea of the story being told from a dog's perspective, but i feel like there were a lot of liberties taken for what the dog would have known and been actually able to relay to the reader. I feel like it made for lazy writing and story telling. The characters all felt very one note and I didn't feel like we were made to care about any of them. I know this was meant to be a "wrap everything up in a nice bow" type of book, but the ending really didn't feel satisfying and again, just gave off lazy writing.
Clearly there's a lot of people out there who actually enjoyed this one, but it definitely wasn't the book for me.
