Cozy philosophy for adults :)

I realize that this is a simplified version of the Tao, but I am not sure the philosophy of the Tao matches my own philosophy. Though I am into yoga and running and inner peace, I am not into "doing nothing." I was especially annoyed at the dig at runners in the Bisy Backson chapter. Whatevs. I plan to read the actual translated Tao soon so maybe it will jive better with me, but not this.

I did like one quote though:

"When you know and respect your own Inner Nature, you know where you belong."

I read this a very long time AGO. And probably need to read it again. I do remember I LOVED IT. Normally I remember for certain things I read but I read so much WINNIE. Seriously I even had a WINNIE THE POOH cook book.

"The Masters of life know the way, for they listen to the voice within them, the voice of wisdom and simplicity, the voice that reasons beyond cleverness and knows beyond knowledge. That voice is not just the power and property of a few, but has been given to everyone."

I actually read this book twice - the first time, I just read it through, the second time, I took notes on the parts that I found interesting and wanted to remember (which may not be very Taoist, but oh well). The thing is, though, I feel like I could read this many more times - both times I read it, different passages or lessons caught my eye.

This book has a light-hearted tone and manner, even while it's explaining the different ideals of Taoism - either using stories from Winnie the Pooh or through traditional Taoist stories. It explains and gives examples - but not too much. In the Taoist way, the book doesn't try hard too hard, it simply states and assumes (hopes?) the reader understands what is meant to be understood.

I thought this was going to be different somehow. It just seemed to be an extended version of a college essay. Though it did make me curious to about taoism so it wasn't all bad.

It surprised me how cleverly written this book was. The dialogues the protagonist has with Pooh are adorable and very funny, but also incredibly enlightening. The illustrations are beautiful, and the arguments made are eye-opening.

3.5 stars

I enjoyed this well enough. There's definitely things I want to take from this book, and I may revisit it again. I loved how Taoism was explained through Winnie the Pooh and his friends. It was a good, quick read with some good points.

May we all be more like Pooh, the moldable clay, and let life lead US a little more.
