I felt that this story was way longer than necessary. The author's writing style was poetic and I felt she over did her descriptions.
The story started off well, I was intrigued by Rhya's mark and Scythe. But as the story progressed the plot stalled because of Rhya's upbringing. She didn't know anything and Penn was not trying to explain to her. Their "relationship" was so hot and cold it took away from their "connection." I felt he kept gaslighting and bread crumbing her. Like are you really upset or confused about why she can't trust you??? And then I didn't like how he did not prioritize teaching her how to use her powers other than not letting it consume her. Like are you guys not being hunted?? I know he probably thought they were impenetrable but my guy?!?!?
As far as Rhya, it was hard to connect with her, one minute she is a weak FMC in need of a hero prince and then the next minute she's a bada** magic yielding heroine.
The best part of this story was when Jac, Farley, Uther, Cadogan, Mabon or Carys appeared. They really saved the book for me.
And I didn't forget about Soren. I loved that although he didn't get a of lot scenes, when he appeared he stole the show. And when he was upset about Penn not showing Rhya how to yield her magic, I felt that lol. I'm not a big fan of love triangles and I don't usually root for the other guy but I am team Soren.
I felt the ending was a bit rushed due to poor pacing. I'm still on the fence if I will continue with the series, but I'm intrigued about the remaining Remnant...who is she/he and when will they appear???

Why am I getting Tamlin vibes?
Through out I’m shouting learn to use stupid girl!!!!!
Don’t think Penn will be bad or anything I just think he is a bit of a red flag and is dealing with it all wrong
Enjoyable book. Great start to a series. Honestly reckon the earth weaver will end up being the enemy. Will wait and see.

I'm soft dnfing, I'll probably come back to it latter because I was liking Rhya, the world building and magic system, but I'm just so tired of the white haired FMC being stuck between two different kinds of assholes MMCs, especially when it's obvious who she is going to end up with.

This is my favorite book of the year. The bar is set incredibly high now. This was so amazing. It was not even what I was expecting. I really don’t have a single negative thing to say about this book. I’m so happy it’s a trilogy. I can’t wait for the second book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
