Of course, “People Like That are the Only People Here: Canonical Babbling in Peed Onk” is a masterpiece, but “Terrific Mother” took me by surprise. Such a good collection.

An OK read...some stories are much more gripping than others...what struck me most were the 3-4 sentence passages in each story that affected me so much that I had to re-read a couple times...extremely articulate and clever wording...lorrie moore creates the most realistic characters and situations that you get to be a part of in each story...overall entertaining read but would not read again

3.5 stars! there are two truly fantastic 5-star stories in this collection: “Community Life” and “What You Want To Do Fine.” the rest of them were either so-so or quite painful for me to get thru. also for some reason this collection starts out with its two weakest stories?

A witty and powerful collection of short stories, each focused on personal stories and mostly about people seeking their own form of redemption or deliverance. Some of the stories are absolutely brilliant, others just very good, but overall an excellent collection.
