An entertaining YA fantasy novel with a strong female lead. Although the premise isn't anything unusual, the author does a good job keeping the plot moving and the story entertaining anyway. Furthermore, Alanna is a great protagonist. She's flawed and realistic, yet still strong and likable. The story is a great read for preteen and teen girls.
