In the beginning I really liked it, but then during the middle I didn’t love is as much after talking to a friend about the book. But then later on I liked it again, but (!) the end, I’m sorry but it made me disappointed! I had hope for at least five other ways the book could end on that I thought would be a more real end but it was still interesting to read!
I don’t know why, but I couldn’t picture the characters appearance a lot of the time :( and I mixed up Nico and Was which was annoying!
It was a nice book to read and discuss with friends about! I didn’t love it but it was still a good book!
Took me exactly 11 hours to read!

It made me have all the feels. The queer joy. The love. It’s like a hug and a breathe of fresh air at the same time. Even when it’s tense. I adore this book.

I'd forgive the book for trying to be a "lighthearted" read or whatever, but the implications of Jane's circumstances/experiences, and the references to real life tragedies that queer people faced- I have to wonder, why was this the premise for a romcom? I don't find it disgusting or immoral, just an extremely odd decision. I do not understand this book.
Also, whatever the humor style in this book is... I do not care for it.

It’s so hard to write a book where every other character is way more interesting than your main character. And yet…
AND Jane being hate crimed and then August asking her if she’s a) called the feds, and b) telling her that most people aren’t racist/homophobic anymore. very very white girl tone deaf. We need to remember that we need to be INTERSECTIONAL. The white queer experience is not the QBIPOC experience and it never will be.

Having said that, this worked really well for me. The person out of time (Biyu Su/Jane Su), the confusion as to who they are, the weird family dynamics for our viewpoint character (August) which should have been triggering but weren't (this is very specific to my family history, and I would not expect it to be an issue for others) and the reasons that August is in New York (and their living situation and housemate) added up to something a bit more than a romance, and something less stressful than a thriller. Knowing it was a romance meant that I could read on in the comfortable knowledge that it would work, and I didn't need to try and work out how.
And I absolutely loved the bits about trying to work out Jane's history, who she had been, where she had been, and how she linked in with August. Why it was the August getting on the train that Jane is haunting was such an important catalyst.

The Atmosphere was immersive and the writing style allowed a good flow. Since I was looking for a cozy read I did not mind that the first 50% were rather slow, but the pace and story picked up after that and lead to a satisfying plot overall.
I liked picking up this book, the sweetness and queerness definitely held my attention.
