very great

To summarise the Myth of Sisyphus is about the purpose of life, how absurd it is and whether or not to commit suicide. I think the primary point of the book is to say fuck it and just live your life anyway despite the absurdism and purposelessness of consciousness and life itself. That you can create your own meaning and purpose even if that purpose is of itself one of purposelessness (Kind of like saying well why not enjoy it anyway despite that).

I really enjoyed the philosophical musings and it's got me interested to read more Camus!

oh wow. it is quite difficult to summarize my thoughts and feelings on this book fue the complexities of ideas it discusses. First off this book has been the first book where felt the urge and need to annotate. The ideas are complex so being able to pinpoint when a thought resonated with me felt necessary. also Camus’ writing style is so lyrical and poetic sometimes i had no idea what he was getting at but it was out so beautifully i just had to highlight it.

I was starting to understand the point he was getting at near the end so i’m hoping to be able to expand my understanding of this type of literature before for sure going back and rereading. from my understand Camus was attempting to articulate the understanding that life has no meaning but still choosing to live a happy and peaceful life despite of it. obviously he expands upon this and is able to articulate this idea in a more pronounced way than I but having that general understanding allowed me to be able to follow his complex thought processes and verbiage. honestly it took me like majority of the book to understand what he meant by “absurd” but i guess that’s the point as that was what he was trying to do. which is define what is the absurd. just writing this review is making me want to reread it again. this book made me want to be apart of an english class again so that i could have a community to discuss the ideas with. due to the complexities i know there are things i missed or parts i want to be able to expand my knowledge upon but i guess that a reread will have to do.

this is definitely one of those books you have to really pay attention to while reading it which is why it took me so long but i’m glad i did. i’m hoping to read more of his work as well as the works he so often referenced. it’s quite obvious as to why Camus won a Nobel Prize in Literature.

in summary: woah
