I really didn't like this story. The scenery was beautiful but the curious and compelling aspects of the novel felt like backdrops to a romance that felt stale.

"On a Sunbeam" is one of those works that I would have a tough time pinning down if I were asked what it is about, yet I enjoyed reading it. Filled with interesting characters in a dream-like fantasy world, or couple of worlds actually, it's easy to like the characters and learn about the life that they live. While I found the artwork to be beautiful, I did think at times that it was a bit confusing and didn't always help guide the story. However, still Recommended.

Wow, wow, wow I loved this! To nobody’s surprise everyone else was correct!

I was immediately intrigued by the setting and premise. Mia meeting her new crew, these wonderful weirdos who make up the perfect chosen family. Their job, the ships that look like fish – what a cool idea?? – this weird world where most things just seem to be floating around in space somewhere. Some things didn’t even really make sense if you thought about it too much, but it worked so well for this story.
Then there’s the past timeline that tells the reader about Mia’s time at boarding school and meeting Grace. The two are very freaking cute together and I liked the way the mystery around Grace was built up.

The story was the perfect mix between heartfelt and about human connection as well as an interesting mystery and high stake adventure. It was really captivating. The story was well resolved for the most part, a few things could’ve been explored/explained a bit better.
Like how did Grace’s sister manage to ensure they could leave while their mother still seemed to be after Ell? Or what it is that makes it possible for Jules to talk to the foxes? A little confusing.
But all in all those were things I could look past, because I was in love with everything else.

The art style is also beautiful, Tillie Walden reminds me a bit of Studio Ghibli sometimes. There were a few panels I’d love to put up on my wall.

I love the art in this but because the art is so dark sometimes it was hard to see which character is which and to understand what is happening in the backgrounds. Or maybe it's the prints issue? The world building is cool anyways and story was good!
