Absolutely beautiful art and wonderful cast of characters with just enough story to hold them all together.  Surreal in a satisfying way.  Queer in the best ways.  Violence isn't overdone.  Romance isn't forced.  My only regret is that it isn't longer with room for more plot twists!

Side note: the print version just isn't a big enough format to appreciate the beautiful art.  I bought it in print and ended up reading it online on a big monitor to really soak in the artwork.

It is insane to me that someone could have this much talent as an artist and spend it on a book where most of the time is spent with a bunch of characters who all look exactly the same sit around and have tedious conversations in static tableaus.

I’ve fallen out of habit with reviews but I really like to keep a reading record so trying to get back at it! On A Sunbeam was exceptional. The art was captivating and Tillie Walden has some really unique ways of using panels in the super intense scenes to convey a bunch of events/emotions/storylines happening at once which was awesome to experience. And the story - the STORY! I love a good intergalactic deep space romance as much as the next person, but one that pushes the “norms” of gender, binaries, and sexuality is even better. Yet the book wasn’t ABOUT those things - instead it presented a world where the norms aren’t just pushed, they literally don’t exist. This was a beautifully crafted, truly sweeping adventure that I’d highly recommend!
