2.5 ⭐️ I’m honestly a little sad I couldn’t connect with this the same way so many other people seemed to. the art was nice, the story was sweet, but it just felt lacking in some aspects. overall not bad, just simply not my favorite
Just not my cup of tea. Once I started to lose interest, I lost track of the story.
The art style wasn't my favorite. I got the characters mixed up at some points. I don't think this story was memorable for me and I will probably forget the plot after a few months if you were to ask me what this book was about. 2.5 maybe 3 stars for me.
3.5⭐️
Honestly I’m really conflicted about this book. I enjoyed it, it was good, but it wasn’t really spectacular in any way.
If I were rating this based solely on the plot and characters, it would have probably been a 2 or 2.5 star. I did not give a damn about what was going on, and I didn’t feel attached to any of the characters (except for Ell a little bit). The whole plot was so weird to me when I really thought about; travelling across the universe to find a girl you dated for a couple months like 5 years ago? A little stalkerish but ok. And the characters, while I didn’t dislike anyone, they were all interesting and had personalities, I just didn’t feel any attachment to any of them. Them as a group was great, I enjoyed the found family aspect of this book. But individually I didn’t care about any of them
The positives of On a Sunbeam though, are the art and the world. HOLY. SHIT. First of all, this is probably the most visually stunning graphic novel I’ve ever read in my life. WOW that art is incredible. And the world??? Oh my god. If y’all know me at all then you know that I love an interesting world, and this book delivered! I would honest to god read an entire series just about the world: their history, folklore, I want it all! This is definitely one of the most unique worlds I’ve ever been to in a book and I think it’s one that’ll stick with me for a long time. Ugh, stunning
