This was a very sweet story. I really enjoyed the art. The story being told asynchronously was a great choice. It did run a bit long for me, and at the same time felt like Grace's decision was made too quickly and without the same consideration for the consequences as with other big choices the characters made during the novel.

I never really know how to rate graphic novels…lovely artwork, really liked the use of warm oranges & reds versus cool blues, and the story was sweet.

This was quite the space adventure epic! It took me a little while to get into, but I ended up enjoying this a lot. It's a true friend gang adventure, and I thought Walden handled the extensive backstories, world-building, and dramatic tension really well. I especially loved
The Staircase planet/system, the family that ruled that space, and the rugged, austere beauty there. Even though I was intitially intimidated by this book's length, everything about The Staircase could have been even longer, honestly.
This was a perfect escapist story, set in a time and place I had to fully dive into with no prior context or familiarity. I don't often do that these days, so it was fun to find that here. I love Walden's art, and perhaps the only thing that could have enhanced this experience was reading this in some sort of oversize, giant book format so I could appreciate the detail and beauty of her artwork even more closely. Maybe I'm old now and just have bad eyes. Great book, though!
