This is a YA mystery novel set in a First Nations reservation on the Michigan border with Canada.  The best thing about this book is its authentic and culturally rich portrayal of Anishinaabe community.  The main character is a young woman, Daunis, who is on the cusp of adulthood, learning about herself, her family, her community and her place within the world. She finds herself in the middle of a federal investigation of drug dealers (meth) and the FBI signs her up as covert informant. This part of the story required some suspension of disbelief on my part but it made for an exciting story.  There is a few chapters of angsty he-loves-me-he-loves-me-not drama in the middle that I found more distracting than contributing, but overall the plot moved fast, there were some great twists and turns and the side characters were strong.  Recommended.

That got intense! I didn't read the description of this book before diving in, so everything that happened was a surprise. I really enjoyed this read, and loved the characters. I especially enjoyed getting to know Daunis and seeing how herany worlds connected and guided her through being an informant in her quest to take out the meth destroying her community.
