Okay... here I go with my non spoiler review. First, I was actually super nervous about this play because I thought that it could be either amazing or disastrous. Turns out, I should have had more faith in JK. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is astounding.

I laughed and I cried (oh boy did I cry). I turned the pages one after another and I read the words as quickly as I could (1h 45m total) and O_o this play was breathtaking. I loved seeing our beloved characters all grown up... I loved meeting their children properly. I loved how it paid homage to the past while carving out a new space for itself.

There are a thousand and one things that I could say about this play... especially in regards to the plot (o_O the plot was just mind-boggling good) but I will just say that it is a worthy sequel if there ever was one.

I hope beyond hope that not only will I have the chance to see this play in two parts in person one day and hopefully, if the fates align, after the Fantastic Beasts trilogy we will have a Cursed Child movie as our ninth Potter film. ^_^

Also... my fingers are crossed that JK will revisit Potter's world again. I need more!

So. It's okay. I don't really think we needed a Part 8, but whatever. Lots of fannish shout-outs, lots of revisiting, so-so story of the next generation. I'm just kinda meh.

It was a good storyline, and pretty heart-wrenching, but it seemed like a fanfiction to me because the characters kept saying things that were out of character.

Considering the fact that I started this book thinking that it's going to be an utter garbage, I was pleasantly surprised. I was thoroughly entertained and I'll take this book as an official weird fanfiction in a play format rather than a part of the franchise.

It was great to be in this world again, but I really would have loved it more if it was a proper J.K. Rowling novel.

disorganized thoughts/feelings
-not a lot of emotional resonance for me in any of this
-except the friendship between albus and scorpius i guess, and some of draco's stuff
-ron's characterization is disappointing
-i can buy that harry might be sort of incompetent and awkward when it came to his kids but not in the way it happens here? (is there a moment where he blames albus for getting him riled up? yes?)
-humour and lots of the general speech that was trying to be cutesy felt forced and awkward....maybe it would come off differently on the stage
-why would hermione hide a time-turner with a series of riddles that would allow someone to find it???
-i'm not a fan of the ~what if it never haaaaappened~ scare in general; more than being an easy device, i think it's a mean way to stir up emotions in readers; so the plot premise was just disinteresting for me
-also the play format requires so much to be left out that the things i'd be really interested in, life and living details, school life, albus' siblings, all the relationships - these don't fit (or were pared down considerably here); so i guess this just isn't the form i'd choose for more harry potter world

i'm not incorporating this into my mental harry potter canon so w/e
