The writing is excellent and the story is definitely intriguing. However, the language is awful and there are several graphic scenes of violence. I probably should have quit this one.

Excellent book!

I do not remember what book I was looking at that listed this one as one that I would like as well but it really got it right for me. In the discussion guide at the end of the book, the author describes this as a love story. Pretty strange for a book that revolves around the main character having made a "deal" with God that she will give up so much if he will just keep the body of the boy she killed from being found. But it is several love stories and all of them are redeeming - love of family and also romantic love. It was difficult for me to fully enjoy, knowing that the murder lurked unknown among all of the relationships. In the end, it did not diminish my overall enjoyment and I can not wait to read another of her books.

Joshilyn Jackson has been on my TBR for a long time. I wouldn't say this was worth the wait. The story took a minute to get into, and then listening to it on audio was a confusing experience. The choice was made to include background music, but it came in at the most random time and it threw me of listening to the story. I felt it was definitely unnecessary. Pretty good story, but looking forward to reading more from her and seeing how those come out.

I bought this book for my Nook, then after I started reading it I realized I had read it some time ago. I enjoyed it! I like books that take place in the South as my Mother grew up in North Carolina. This book has a lot of flashback scenes in it and you have to be careful as you read it to keep track of what exactly is going on. I did like the humor the author included and I thought the main character was an absolute hoot!

Rereading thanks to the overlap with [b:Backseat Saints|7114381|Backseat Saints|Joshilyn Jackson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1275622170s/7114381.jpg|7374427]...and it brought more depth to both books in the rereading! What a fun, fast, great read, and a cool way to see Rose Mae again - she's starting to seem like a close friend since I've spent the past few weeks with her :)

Jackson is now one of my favorite authors. It doesn't take me more than 2 days to read any of her books, I can't sleep until I finish them, and then I can't sleep for thinking about the characters...

This was her first novel, and having read them out of order (I read [b:Between Georgia|241969|Between, Georgia|Joshilyn Jackson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1173051245s/241969.jpg|1345521] first and it was her second novel), there are a lot of similarities between the two books that almost seem like cheating.

The crazy, headstrong, secret-wielding soul housed in the main character's aunt is the same soul in both Florence and Bernise. And while the author has a talent for suspense, surprise, and satisfying endings, the two books were a bit similar. As much as I enjoyed this one, I think I enjoyed Between more...the story was a little bit richer, while this was a little bit simpler (although with plenty of twists and turns!)

I have to give it to her now, though, for her newest, [b:The Girl Who Stopped Swimming|1266297|The Girl Who Stopped Swimming|Joshilyn Jackson|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/519mzb7X9YL._SL75_.jpg|546698], as it was a valiant break from her previous style of character and plot development.

Anything she writes is worth reading, though! I'm looking forward to more from her soon!!

I read this one for book club. I ended up liking it way more than I thought I would. I wasn't excited about the selection at first, but it was a quick read and not like anything I had read before.

Tried reading at the recommendation of a coworker. Read 70 pages then just jumped straight to the end. 🤷🏻‍♀️
