Two stars almost purely for the climax. Poorly written the climax was too short and underwhelming, aspects of the finale I enjoyed. I am really just curious after this end if this would make me enjoy the series ending had Frank appreciated it. The first trilogy, two as an amazing Segway, then four acted as a good bridge between 3 and 5. So I expected this in-between book to have that same style of writing. This book was a letdown as a transition and it's hard for me to separate whether that is the fault of book 7 never coming, or just the general writing. After a weeks reflection, I genuinely think this is a bad book. The usual deep Frank Herbert discussion falls flat, and the action is non-existent. He didn't connect his philosophizing to the story. Also some genuinely weird and uncomfortable scenes, not in a Lovecraft or junji ito style, but a genuinely creepy few chapters. Also somewhat anti-Semitic ideals. Whether he would resolve those by breaking stereotypes, we will never fully know. With all the back and forth, and the fact I have 0 motivation to re-read this ever, I will never fully know if I enjoy this book either.
