When Charlotte has yet another bad experience with a guy she’s dating she decides to swear off men and get a puppy instead and it turns out to be a great decision for a while. Until her and her coworker/neighbour George starting getting close. Should she stick to the puppy pact after all or take a chance on someone?
This was a super cute book!! I loved the idea of it and as a dog owner myself, I can say that puppies really do make everything better.
I liked Charlotte a lot but found her insistence on sticking to this silly pact she made even when she has feelings for George a little annoying. It’s okay to change your mind about something. George was very likeable and the fact that he was a reader and an Austen fan to boot? Love it. I didn’t feel a ton of chemistry between the two characters and thought the friendship was lovely to read but when they first got together it was just a little awkward for me. The story took a while to unfold, a little bit too long for my liking as I already knew they’d end up together and it was just a matter of it happening.
Sad there was no spice and it was only fade to black.
Overall a fun read! Enjoyed the writing style as well.
3.5 stars, bumped up to 4 for good reads!

This Jane Austen-themed romance centers on orthopedist Charlotte and her search for a Darcy. After a breakup, she declares she will stay single for 6 months and lavish her attention on a dog instead, and gets a golden retriever that she names Bingley. George, a physical therapist at the complex where she works, assists with many things dog-related as he has a dog, himself, and proves to be a steadfast and loyal friend, respecting her dating moratorium even though he’s had a crush on her for ages. Once they realize they have feelings, they act on them very quickly, with all juicy details left behind closed doors. When Charlotte overhears George, who is a transplant from Colorado, discussing a job offer, she panics and old demons about being simultaneously too much and not enough surface, which George, aware that he isn’t lightning for most women, begins to doubt he’s a choice and not just someone Charlotte is settling for.
Austen quotes precede each chapter, and the backstories and subplots are rich; both characters are real and honest about their flaws. Charlotte’s mother loved Austen, and she and her sisters treat Austen’s words as gospel. George also grew up with sisters and has been struggling to be away from his family and find his fit in Pine Hollow, a charming small town in Vermont. He makes friends and forms a band with seniors, who share relationship advice. The dogs steal the scenes with their antics, and puppy parenting is real and realistic (you mustn’t love dogs to read). I haven’t read the other titles in the series, but didn’t feel like I was missing any key plot points.

Pride and Puppies made me so happy- it was chock full of references to my fave things like Austen, Ted Lasso and even a knockoff british baking show. I loved the story and it was so fun, but the more I think about it, the more I had issues with some of the things in it. I liked the characters but there are some flaws that are hard to ignore and then annoyed me the more I thought of it. But it was a super fast and fun read and I did enjoy it.
I really liked this romance novel. A good friends to lovers story is always nice and I love dogs, so that was a nice touch the author incorporated. The characters were fun and I liked them both a lot, especially George, I love me a good asshole but we need more genuinely sweet and kind male protagonists in romance, I think he was such a lovely male lead. I liked Charlotte well enough but towards the latter half of the novel I did feel she was a bit too oblivious and it irritated me a bit. In the same vein, I think was prevented this from gaining a higher reading was the pacing, I wish that Charlotte had realized her feelings sooner before we got them getting together so there was bit more of a pining slowburn, but it was alright and not too bad.
Overall definitely a cute and enjoyable read!

I'm giving this like a 2.5 stars
The main character, Charlotte, honestly just got on my nerves. She was just very annoying to me for some reason. I loved George though - at least his personality - he seemed so sweet and kind. But I hated how he pined for Charlotte. And once they got together I was kinda like meh...he deserves better than a weird relationship thing with her. She just seemed so childish about it all.
I also didn't like the small side plot about George's sister's husband being in love with someone else. Like the fact that he literally was flirting and texting with this other woman for who knows how long was shown as being "okay" because he told his wife (George's sister Beks) he loves BOTH women and still wants to be with Beks..but then wonders what life would've been like with the other woman?? what the hell??? Why didn't she divorce him on the spot? If anyone who's in a similar situation reads this I feel like they might react the same way and just settle for being the second woman. Ugh it was such a horrible message/plot - I hope anyone who is in that type of situation gets out of it because you want to be someone's FIRST choice - not the fall back.
This book just overall irritated me honestly - there was a lot of indecision and just childish behavior. I actually couldn't finish it. I was a little over halfway through but once it got to the "I'm not in love with him!" Part I just had to stop.
If Charlotte was less childish and if George was less of a pushover, it would've been good

I thought this book was precious! Both main characters were relatable, although maddening at times. Just communicate! It was a cute, quick read, and while in the Acknowledgments the author calls it a love letter to Jane Austen, it’s also a love letter to dog people, and makes me want to read Lizzie Shane’s other works. It’s very low stakes, and gets a bit predictable at times, but overall I enjoyed reading it!
I could tell from the first chapter that the writing is not for me. I love a cheesy rom com, but this feels a little too on the nose for my taste.

SO FREAKING CUTE!! Puppies AND He Falls First?!? Perfection!! I will definitely be picking up the rest of the series!!
Knocked off half a heart because the lack of transparency and communication between the characters went on for a little too long and bordered on unrealistic. But also I night have done the same
Wholesome read - randomly picked this up at the library. Can’t go wrong with Jane Austen and puppies!
My favorite book, my favorite two colors on cover, not one but TWO dogs, an installment in a series I've really enjoyed...what could go wrong? Everything.
This book was way too long. It was repetitive in the worst way. Whole phrases were repeated over and over. Taking out the repetition would have made for a shorter book and far more enjoyable experience. Characterization was based solely on the repetition, so even though the book is 352 pages, the characters ended up feeling flat because I feel like they only have two personality traits each.
Even worse, the miscommunication trope is repeated countless times in this book. I don't have enough fingers to count the number of times these characters just decided what the other was thinking instead of just speaking to each other like normal adults. I kept waiting for more from the plot and characters because I liked the first three books so much. Alas, the only thing I liked here were seeing more of the town's cozy foolishness, Howard and Vivian from the senior estate, and the dogs Duke and Bingley.
