I really contemplated giving this 4 stars because sooooo much miscommunication and y’all know that shit drives me insane. HOWEVER, it’s part of their character flaws. They doubt themselves and what they deserve, they self sabotage, and lowkey I got it - I get that way too. That feeling of "this is too good to be true, they'll lose interest" but being terrified of that because that person means the absolute world to you.
This follows George and Charlotte - they work together and are both doctors in a small town in Vermont. George is the new guy and wants to feel a sense of belonging after moving there a year and a half ago. Him and Charlotte become friends, especially after a breakup and she swears off men and decides on a puppy pact. She gets a puppy to help focus her love and attention and begins bonding with George.
So we get friends to lovers and it’s so

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.
My Thoughts: This is book number four in the Pine Hollow series, however, each of the books in the series can be read as stand alongs, including this one. The story is narrated by Charlotte and George, in their respective POVs. Charlotte was independent, strong, sworn off men for six months, and decided to get a puppy that would love her unconditionally. Her coworker and friend, George, was secretly in love with her, so when she asks for his help in training her new puppy, he jumped at the opportunity to spend more time with her. I adored the Jane Austen references sprinkled throughout the story. The story follows a friends to lovers trope, which is one of my favorites. Shane delivers an excellent plot with turns and of course, the HEA. The characters were well fleshed out well with depth, witty banter, chemistry, and creatively paired up with dogs. I adored the side characters in this book. All of the characters were likable and relatable. The author’s writing style was complex, funny, heartwarming, and kept me engaged. This book releases tomorrow and I highly recommend picking up.

*I received a free ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
This was a cute story of learning to love yourself, learning to accept love from others, and, of course, PUPPIES!
This was overall an average, good read for me. The chemistry was okay, but I found Charlotte and George's inability to communicate irritating at times. While at times I did find this book dragged, the ending was very strong and made it worth the read. The last few chapters and epilogue had me grinning from ear to ear! And of course, there were lots of puppy appearances to keep the story going.
If you are a fan of fluffy, sweet, closed-door romances featuring adorable canines, then this book may be what you are looking for!

Trope: small town romance
Pride and Puppies. Need I say more? If you love puppies, you'll love this book. The dual POV was really compelling and I loved the nods to Jane Austen throughout.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

screaming crying throwing up, easily the sweetest book i have ever read so far this year and i love it so much
This one was cute but also I was a little annoyed.
There is such a lack of communication between Charlotte and George. So they’re just assuming what the other one wants/feels.
Charlotte has always wanted her Mr. Darcy so she ends up dating jerks. She freaks out when she starts dating George because she doesn’t know what to do with a decent guy.
I liked seeing how Charlotte’s friends - Kendall and Magda - supported each other. And I also liked seeing both Charlotte and George interact with the residents of the retirement home they work at.
I also found it a little too long. So maybe if it was cut down a bit some of my annoyances wouldn’t have been such a big deal.
Overall this was enjoyable just not a favorite.

Pride and Puppies is the fourth book in the Pine Hollow series, a set of companion novels by Lizzie Shane. This book focusses on Charlotte and George, both of whom we met in the previous book, but didn't get to know until now.
Charlotte, blames Jane Austen for being single again. Her unrealistic expectations and failing to find her own Mr. Darcey. She swears off dating and decides to adopt a puppy, Bingley. She goes to her neighbour, and co-worker, George, for dog advice. Charlotte is sure she won't fall for him, because he is kind, sweet, nice and totally not her type. Little does Charlotte know that George has had a crush on her since he met her a year and a half ago, but she is always in a relationship. In her desire for singledom, her and George begin to spend more time together, as friends, and she begins to discover she has feelings for him. What will she do since she has sworn on men and doesn't want to be let down again?
This was a sweet book, that had a lot of focus on growth for both our main characters. They are both pretty insecure in their ideas of love and whether they could be loved and I liked to see both come into their own and believe that they were worthy of love, and the kind of love they wanted. More than the love story, I loved the friendship that developed between Charlotte and George and how their relationship started as friends, and developed into something more.
I enjoyed the side characters and really liked getting to know Charlotte's friend, Kendall and Magda, as well as George's new friends like Howard and Mac. I also thought George's sisters, though not physically in the book, were great additions with the zoom book club meetings and support they were giving him. Of course, the other two side characters were the dogs, Duke and Bingley. Duke was a sweetheart and Bingley was a mischievous puppy. I love that Lizzie Shane adds so much dog to her stories, it constantly leaves smiles on my face!
Pride & Puppies is a sweet book that puts a smile on your face and the occasional tear in your eye. I couldn't help but love and adore this novel. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever publishing for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% mine.

I really enjoyed this one! This was my first read by Lizzie Shane and it won't be my last. Although I felt a little silly when I realized this was book 4 in a series and I had not read the previous three LOL! However, I don't think my reading experience suffered at all having not read the rest of the books - I will definitely go back and read them though.
What I Liked:
- Themes of self-discovery and growth
- Friends-to-lovers (one of my favorite tropes!)
- Jane Austen references!
- Great side characters (another reason I want to go back in this series!)
- Puppies!!!
Something I didn't love was how long it took for the two MCs to admit their feelings for each other! I wish there had been better communication between them, but that isn't unique to this book and something I see a lot in romances overall. I also wish we got a little more spice, but hey, that's just my preference. Also George's sister Beks seemed pretty toxic throughout the book but redeemed herself towards the end.
Overall, really enjoyed this one and the fact that the two MCs were both strong individuals and didn't settle easily.
TW: Loss of a parent, mention of cheating

3.5 but rounding up because I’m a sucker for anything Austen-adjacent. But in the opening chapters, Charlotte - a 29 year old woman - asserts she doesn’t get hungover?? “Her body processed alcohol as energy”?? HOW. Once I got past that, it was a cute story and might make me more open to liking Emma when I get to my re-read later this year.
