An amazing starter cookbook. It has simple and complex recipes that are easy to follow. The baked goods sections are my favorite!
We used to have a copy of this growing up and used it all the time for family meals and snacks. When I moved to the UK and realized I'd have to cook on my own I immediately ordered this cookbook from Amazon. I use it at least once a week!
The recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients are easy to find. I especially like when the pictures are present, but I know that anything I make from here will turn out right.

This was given to me by co-workers as a joke many years ago after I complained about being assigned Jell-o to bring to a potluck because I didn't want to have to cook. They apparently didn't consider making Jell-o to be "cooking" but as it involved the kitchen, measuring cups and large bowls, I certainly did.
Much like the looseleaf, except in portable paperback form. Again, pies. Better Homes & Gardens knows fruit pie.
I had a version of this as a kid. It has some very odd recipes, but some good ones as well. The homemade eggnog, while it is not at all the holiday treat you would expect, is a great high protein breakfast. And by "great" I mean that it is probably an acquired taste.
I have an earlier edition. This book is indespensable due to the pie chart. Practically every sort of fruit pie that I have thought to make is represented and it has never steered me awry.
An essential cookbook to have in the kitchen. jam-packed with all the basic stuff you need to really begin cooking. Need a decent white sauce? Got it. Wanna try to make your own bread? Yep, recipes for that. How many *blanks* in a *blank*? Conversions are on the back page. Definitely grateful to my big sister for buying this for me!
I've been burned by this book too many times....I mostly depend on recipes for baking, and just wing it when cooking, so I can only speak to the baking recipes here but all the ones I've tried are terrible. The pumpkin bread was nigh inedible. The oatmeal cookies call for too much butter and not enough oats, resulting in cookies that spread too much even after chilling the dough for hours, and are not particularly tasty. The fudgy brownies are cakey, and the cakey brownies are just dense (flavorless) chocolate cake. The chocolate chip cookies don't even call for salt (they do in my mom's older version). The banana bread is okay, but I always increase the amount of banana because the recipe turns out too dry otherwise. (I also cut the sugar by half bc it is way too sweet otherwise)
I am not the world's best baker, but I know these recipes are to blame because I follow them closely and get bad results every time, while following recipes I've gotten passed down from family always turns out with something delicious.

This book has it all! It’s one of my favorites on my shelf! I enjoy having cookbooks with many ideas in them rather than googling for ideas.
