I received mine as a Christmas gift in 1993 so it is a tad outdated. I'm not likely to find pad thai. I'm vegetarian and like to take traditional recipes from my childhood and adapt them to my veggie diet. This is my go-to cookbook for that. I don't know how much my copy differs from the latest versions. For anyone who wants just one cookbook that covers the basics to the gourmet, this one should keep you pretty happy.

I absolutely love to cook and explore new territory in the kitchen so I was initially a little nonplussed by this wedding gift--especially since I was raised on Betty Crocker. However, I quickly discovered that these recipes tended to be more flavorful than the Betty Crocker equivalents, and the cookbook itself more likely to contain a recipe I was looking for. This is my top recommendation for your basic, general, and go-to cookbook.

Easy to read, even for someone that doesn't know the kitchen all that well like me! I would recommend this to a complete beginner to cooking.

nice cookbook!

It's an iconic cookbook. Other than the dessert recipes though there wasn't a ton for vegetarians.

Easy quick reference book for simple things

This is a great go-to cookbook to remind yourself how to hard boil eggs or make pancakes. Lots of classic dishes that remind me of my childhood. I find it handy to have around, but a little dated.

My kids are cooking dinner this summer and this is the first cook book that we are using. We went through it and chose 9 recipes that looked and sounded good. So far they are. When we finish with this book, we will chose another.

I do happen to own this one, but have decided that I won't buy any more. Kids cookbooks just aren't justifiable price wise or storage space wise in my opinion. We will check out the rest from the library. (And keep them far from the cooking area.)

Got this as a wedding gift and like its reference sections. Many recipes rely on processed ingredients more than I normally do, but they all are easy and probably crowd-pleasers. I also love that it is subdivided into very specific sections; much easier to flip to the Cookie tab than wade through an entire Dessert chapter, if that's what I'm looking for.

This is a great cookbook for kids.
