I can't believe it's over. One of the best series I've ever read, if not the best, has come to an end.
I cannot say how amazed I am by what Laini Taylor did with this series. This book was even better than the second one, and I hadn't thought that was possible!

I am speechless! READ THESE BOOKS! They are masterpieces!

I adored it, it made me cry, laugh, and live (live laugh love basically). The characters were amazing, especially Karou and Akiva, I was happy with the conclusion and the way the storylines ended. I enjoyed reading this book, I like the writing style, it made for a very quick and entertaining reading.

There were some small hiccups but nothing major. There is a new plotline and sort of rushed worldbuilding that tries to tie everything together in the end. I would say it was 90% successful with it. I still enjoyed it though, the new characters added some insight into the main characters so I didn't mind. And I would not have liked making this a four-book saga instead of a trilogy to extend that plotline so, I'm content with what I got.

This book does not follow a normal three-act structure, and I enjoyed it more because of it. The resolution wasn't plain or simple, it had nuance. And the climax was very satisfactory to me, even if it happened way earlier than it should have been (the conflict with Jael is the climax for me).

Truly, the highlight of this story was the romance between Karou and Akiva, their reluctance to show their love, their insecurities, their fears, hopes, and dreams. I don't think I can ever forget a protagonist like Karou, she is my beloved forever.

So this is definitely better than its predecessors. The structuring was still wonky but way way better than the other two as well. I found myself wishing very much at certain times that this had been Eliza Jones's story. I also wish a lot of other things had been different. I wanted to know about the magic behind the wishes, how Brimstone was able to make them, why they were connected to a resurrectionist. I do know that they were used as a way to influence Brimstone's collectors, but past that why did they exist? Was it a magic exclusive to chimera, to resurrectionists? WHAT ARE THE WISHES ABOUT GODDAMN IT

I liked Liraz and Ziri a lot. That was a fun relationship, showing that not just Akiva could fall in love with a chimera. There were a couple twists I enjoyed seeing enfold. It was nice not knowing their plan for Jael until it was in motion. It was okay. I wish these books were better, I really do. But they're not. I'm glad I read (listened to) them at least once so I could bail off the hype train in a blaze of glory because this particular train is a mess. It had a lot of great ingredients but from start to finish, book one to book three, Laini Taylor just took those ingredients, didn't properly mix them, and ended up with a sloppy mess that was ALMOST good but not quite there.

Sayonara, Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Can't say I'll be missing you.

Loved the last book of this trilogy! It was amazing besides the lackness of action pact scenes, Laini did a amazing job at keeping up with the drama and mystery, making an unstopping reading with a beautiful narration. The characters were as captivating as ever, and I still think I can't get enough...

Ahh that was a stressful yet ultimately satisfying end to a violent, enthralling trilogy.

Karou will always be one of my favourite female protagonists so I am glad things ended well; but I don't wish to spoil this for anyone! So all I will say is I'm super glad Laini Taylor realised Tolkien's mistake and made sure her giant eagles didn't and couldn't save the day!

I will deffi re-read this trilogy in the future and am excited for Laini's next book.

Thanks Jurgita for this epic birthday treat <3
