Klichéfyldt og sukkersød, men åååh så god og lige præcis hvad jeg havde brug for. Helt sikkert en, der skal genlæses på et tidspunkt!

Just terrible.

I never really know what to expect with second books by new (to me) authors, but I loved The Summer I Became a Nerd and I'd probably read anything Leah Rae Miller wrote based on my love for her first book.

Romancing the Nerd did not disappoint. Zelda and Dan, as characters, are unique and fallible and they're right up there with Logan and Maddie in terms of "worm-their-way-into-your-heart, think-about-them-when-you're-not-reading"ness. It was refreshing not to deal with the "gotta hide my nerdiness lest my social status come to a crashing halt and I be exiled into an unnamed terrible place (that I would actually really love and would prefer to be there, oh the horror)" issues that Maddie dealt with in her book. Instead, Zelda and Dan have their own problems and their own ways of dealing with them.

It was nice to see the book from both points of view. I actually wish, in retrospect, that we'd gotten that with The Summer I Became a Nerd. I would have loved to see the world (and Maddie) through Awesome Logan's eyes. But, I digress.

All in all, the book was a devour-able delight. Quick, fun, and easy to read - perfect to get my mind out of my own world for a few hours. Another favorite to add to the bookshelves.

I actually reread the Nerd Series in 2022 because last time I read them, I didn't drop a review and I felt like I really needed to.

I have to say, I'm not always the biggest fan of these series where couple A gets a book and then there's a follow-up where a side character suddenly has a love interest running around - that we never heard about - as well, and I do think the first story is always the strongest because of that. And I don't think it's necessarily different over here.

I would recommend this series to anyone who wants to read about high school comic book nerds getting together, and LARPing, etc., but if you are a bit stressed for time and you feel you cannot fully focus on an entire series, just give the first one a shot and decide later if you want to finish this series or not. The second story doesn't add much to the first, and the second book can stand without the second one as well. No reread would be necessary, just pick up the names of couple A again, and you're good to go. ;)

Dan and Zelda used to be friends, but Dan grew up hot and become a basketball player. Zelda stayed the same old geek. Dan's new "friends" bully Zelda and she lumps him in with the same unfortunate group. After an accidental nosebleed, due to Dan chucking a basketball and hitting Zelda's nose, she is out for revenge. However, is Zelda reading Dan's actions and motivations all wrong?

This book was a pretty great work of geekery. It is a simple, cute nerd love story. Easy breezy read.

YA romances are always a great read. But YA romances involving nerdy characters are twice as great.
This book made me grind and laugh and turn my pages with so much enthusiasm.
The writing is stellar, all the characters are amazing, the pace is great... This book can cure the biggest reading slump you can experience, trust me.
I recommend it. I'm certain you will love it as much as I did.

Love the way nerds are portrayed in this story and that it is multi perspective within the chapters.

***NOTES FOR SELF***
Found Dan's discovery that Zelda was FinityGirl was too simple and easy.
Maddie's reactions seemed out of character and exaggerated.
Dan charmed FinityGirl right from the start.

One day ill find a geeky/nerdy book that isnt cringeworthy and filled with dumb stereotypes. And im sick of these books ending with LARP. Its like finding the most annoying nerd stereotype and running with it.

I loved the premise of this story as soon as I read it. Popular guy and nerdy girl? But the added factor that he used to be a dork is why I was really intrigued. I wanted to know what could have gone wrong between these former friends. Usually we see this behavior earlier on, not once in high school. That is where this story differs from others of its type.

Dan Garrett used to be a nerd. He was a LARP-playing geek, but thanks to a growth spurt and his ability to shoot threes, he's now made his way into the popular crowd. But he doesn't love it. The girl he left behind - Zelda Potts - is zany, nerdy, and ready for revenge.

So, I was dying to know how Dan had wronged Zelda. She 'hated' him. I use this in quotation marks because it was obvious she didn't, really. Missed him, yes. Hated that his life changed and she was on the outside, yes. But him as a person, no. She hated the idea of him becoming all he hated. What she didn't realize was that he was still the same guy she knew, hung out with, and had a crush on for so many years... and that he felt the same way! When we were finally let in on the reason Zelda thought Dan to be a douche of the highest order, I was a bit underwhelmed. I knew it wasn't what she thought right away. I had his side of things (not the past, but how he saw her), so I knew there was something she was missing.

I found her revenge plot silly and nonsensical. I kind of understood her plan, but not completely. I think there would've been better ways to get back at him, but then this would've been a different story entirely.

AND... we wouldn't have gotten as much of the nerd references as we did! Seriously, if you consider yourself a nerd in any way, you will enjoy all the pop culture mentioned. My geek heart squealed in delight so many times!

The characters themselves are easy to love. Dan is an upstanding guy with a popular side, but he hasn't given in to the usual behaviors the group tends to display. Perhaps because he was on the other side recently? Or maybe he's just a good guy. Whatever it is, I knew I wanted him and Zelda to get together. And Zelda? What a firecracker. She has a take-no-crap attitude, but you can tell sometimes the actions of her peers does upset her. It's human nature. But she takes it in stride and is quirky and adorable. You will root for her the whole way, too. Maddie, Logan, and Beth are typical side characters. Beth was slightly forgettable for me as she's in a few scenes and barely makes an impression. Maddie and Logan were far more memorable, and maybe it's not fair since they are present for a lot of the interactions between Dan and Zelda. But I loved their relationship with each other as much as I did the one with their friends.

The way the story is split up between their points of view really makes this a speedy read. I felt as though I had just started it when I reached the ending. By the way, the ending is a bit too abrupt. Not that I expected to go through years of their lives or anything, but the last sentence left me feeling as though another page or two had been forgotten in my copy.

Romancing the Nerd is a cute, fun, and easy read that will appeal to anyone. I finished it in a matter of hours. It's not anything unique, but it's the perfect quick read. I recommend it to anyone who's looking to temporarily get lost in a high school book that doesn't touch on any serious issues and contain emotional trauma in any way.
