Literally sobbed during the prologue but hardly felt anything for the rest of the book (and I’m an easy crier)
Didn’t love Julie as a character, thought nearly everyone lacked depth and even some people were a bit annoying
Thought it lacked nuance and often told rather than showed, which made the book quite repetitive.
didn’t like there wasn’t any closure with the Taylor situation, and think the ending was super anticlimactic and rushed
Some of the writing was quite pretty though
“His song sounds like drops of water falling softly on clay rooftops in the spring.”
“Sometimes I wish I could skip a few years into the future to see where I end up. So I don’t waste all this time planning things out, only to have none of it go right.” Same girl

“𝕎𝕖 𝕒𝕣𝕖 𝕥𝕨𝕠 𝕡𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕤 𝕠𝕗 𝕒 𝕤𝕠𝕟𝕘. ℍ𝕖 𝕚𝕤 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕞𝕦𝕤𝕚𝕔. 𝕀 𝕒𝕞 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕕𝕤”.
Thoughts: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It beautifully captured the journey of grief experienced by Julie and her friends, each dealing with their emotions in unique ways. The ability to see how each character grieved differently was truly intriguing. I was particularly moved by Julie's connection with Sam even after his passing, and their emotional bond touched my heart. The writing style was captivating, and I adored the book cover as well.
Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Julie has her future all planned out—move out of her small town with her boyfriend Sam, attend college in the city, spend a summer in Japan. But then Sam dies. And everything changes. Heartbroken, Julie skips his funeral, throws out his things, and tries everything to forget him and the tragic way he died. But a message Sam left behind in her yearbook forces back memories. Desperate to hear his voice one more time, Julie calls Sam’s cellphone just to listen to his voicemail. And Sam picks up the phone. In a miraculous turn of events, Julie’s been given a second chance at goodbye. The connection is temporary. But hearing Sam’s voice makes her fall for him all over again, and with each call it becomes harder to let him go. However, keeping her otherworldly calls with Sam a secret isn’t easy, especially when Julie witnesses the suffering Sam’s family is going through. Unable to stand by the sidelines and watch their shared loved ones in pain, Julie is torn between spilling the truth about her calls with Sam and risking their connection and losing him forever.

i’m embarrassed to say that i judged this book by its cover and i was wrong.
as beautiful as the cover was, the content was the most boring thing i’ve ever read.
seriously, the basic plot line had so much potential, but it was wasted. there was no tension, no suspense, nothing.
the characters felt like they had no personality, the events were predictable, and overall it felt like something i would’ve written in 4th grade.
all i can say is i’m happy to be through with it.
