I'm glad I watched the movie first this time--it made the reading experience a lot more enjoyable. I love how the screenplay really adds detail to the movie and shows us what the characters are feeling.

review to come.

I haven't seen the movie yet but now I need to. ASAP

I LOVE literally every single thing about this series. This was the perfect addition to the film, reading it I could picture and relive every scene and it was amazing!! Also the book itself is so gorgeous and has beautiful illustrations...I just LOVE THIS BOOK!

This screenplay puts me in a weird situation. In my review for "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" I mentioned that it did not bother me rather it is a novel or a screenplay because in both formats it would still be a bad story. Now, while reading a good story like "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" in screenplay form, I just realized that this script format actually bothers me. Don´t get me wrong: I liked the plot, I really enjoyed seeing the movie and I also enjoyed this book for the most part but I know that I WOULD HAVE LOVED IT SO MUCH MORE AS A NOVEL! Newt´s personality and his love for magical creatures, the backstory of the two sisters Tina and Queenie, Jacob Kowalski´s fascination for the wizarding world, a bit more explanation about the Obscurial and so much more - all these things could have been fleshed out so much more in an actual novel with inner monologues of all these characters. However, the design of this screenplay is simply beautiful, I really loved the small illustrations. It was also a good decision to watch the movie before reading the play to imagine some of the creatures better which did not all appear in the Harry Potter books as well. The plot itself was not perfect for sure but definitely very enjoyable and I think that it was a good decision to create a new story which is set in an earlier time period within the same universe, so don´t need to complain about the way our favorite characters changed.(Yes I am looking at you, Cursed Child!) Overall I liked story itself fine but I just did not enjoy the way in which it was told enough to rate it higher than 3 of 5 stars.

i had to read it again as i recently got the hardcover version of it.

This was so much fun to dive into! I love the HP world and any reason to return to it I will always take advantage of.

First book of 2019. I received this last year, but never got around to reading it. I didn't enjoy Cursed Child and didn't love the screenplay format, so I held off. However, I do love the Fantastic Beasts movies and I got the 2nd screenplay this year for Christmas. I decided to do a full HP (re)read this year, so I started with the two FB books. They went SUPER quick. In fact, I read both in one day and had time to read the first 80p or so of Sorcerer's Stone. I was surprised that I did enjoy them. With the screenplay, you get a better handle on the actual beasts and their names and details. It feels like it's a blip in the movies and they're on to something else, but with it being in print, it's easier to take it all in. The hubs thought that this might be a bit different than the movie, especially since it says it's the "ORIGINAL" screenplay, but as best I can tell, it is the exact same. So, unless they changed NOTHING in production, it's not the original, but the final screenplay. Still, I enjoyed it.

Really, really good. I did not think a screenplay would be so easy to read. It was really nice to go back into the movie and learn a little bit more.
And the book is so beautiful, inside and out! Thank you Minalima! I loved all the details and drawings, really nice.
